(A Very Big) Goalie Project - Richard Brodeur

Wow it seems like it's been forever since I posted an actual hockey card related topic. Today we will start things up again with what I believe to be one of my favourite cards in my collection.

I've posted Richard Brodeur cards before including one from my "Old Timer Treasure" set. Take a look if you haven't already seen...

Now let's take a look at what the magic Richard Brodeur sheet has to offer...

As you can see ITG makes poor good use of the same photo year after year. Another interesting card to look at is the base card from UD masterpieces and what I believe to be one of my favourite sets of all time. If you continue reading you'll see why I say that. The "Greats of the Game" base card that is the left card in the second row is one of the two I own. Finally the first card is the oldest Brodeur card I have, yet not even close to his rookie season where he played for the Norgeeks. Now onto the good stuff.

My Richard Brodeur collection also involves an "Event-Worn" jersey card. Normally I wouldn't be so excited about this but the set and designs makes up for it - big time. This card was also my favourite jersey card until my buddy over at Shoebox Legends sent me this beauty. Take a look...

I love everything about this card, and when having to chose between an all white piece or coloured I picked this one not knowing this was only "Event-Used".

Love this card and remains as one of my favourites in the collection. Now here's a gander at what my goalie project looks like.

  1. Yeah, I see what you mean about the Brodeur. Looks like they were signing outside the same Safeway..

Still a very cool card and I am sure you enjoy yours as much as I enjoy mine!

  3. How are you judging completeness? What qualifies to become part of the collection?

  4. @1967ers
In most cases I collect at least 3 cards from each goalie.
    1) Rookie
    2) Card in Canucks jersey
    3) Card in another teams jersey

With Brodeur above I own in total 10 cards of him but they all fall under the 2nd category thus 1/3 complete. Although with other goalies such as Troy Gamble, he has never played for any other team besides the Canucks so in circumstances like this I collect only what I need. In that case it was a rookie card and a card in a canucks jersey.

  5. OK, so it's by type. I get it now.

Brodeur has at least two WHA cards with the Nordiques, maybe three (can't remember for '77-78). His RC was in '75-76. Those would be interesting to add in. The WHA sets are different and kind of interesting.
