OOPSIES! Contest #3 - Answer

The fact I said that this error was an easy one, I believe tripped some of you up. The answer smacked you right in the face, but I believe some of you dug a little too deep, which isn't a bad thing. Some even started finding errors that made me question if there was more than one mistake on the card.

At last, there is only one true blunder on this card, take a look one last time and see if you can narrow it down:

ANSWER: In the bottom right hand corner is a Maple Leafs logo. Dan Cloutier never played for the Maple Leafs...ever...

In fact it looks like there is a Canucks logo actually underneath the Laughs logo. Looks like they got it right the first time. Because of the uniqueness of the error, I took a look at my double and it had the same mistake.

Nonetheless, 11 out of 16 of you got it correct. Unfortunately, 1967'er only gets partial points because he took two guesses kinda.

There were 4 of you that went bananas and made me do some research. The comment on the back of the cards mention Cloutier getting "double digit wins" when he only had 7 wins in the 2000-01 season. Those "double digits" refer to the 2001-02 season. With that * before the save percentage stat, I couldn't find anything online or on the back of the card. Unfortunately, that will not count for points...

With that being said here is where all the contestants stand!

1.     NordH - 6 points
2.     Jess - 5 points
        JGBlargh - 5 points
4.     Kevin Osimitz - 4.5 points
5.     Brad Larocque - 4 points
        1976ers - 4 points
        BTHCC Kyle - 4 points
        Sean - 4 points
Hockey Fan (Paul) - 4 points
10.   Cap'n Canuck - 3.5 points
        Sébastian Hell - 3.5 points
        Kazi - 3.5 points
13.   Skroeker - 3 points
        Jason - 3 points
15.   Dave H - 2.5 points
16.   JS - 2 points
        Paul - 2
        Baseballislife - 2 points
        Sal - 2
        Jayzin Smith - 2 points
21.   Matt Pederson - 0.5 points

The next one will be harder I promise!

OOPSIES! Contest #3 - Dan Cloutier Error

Round 3 of the "OOPSIES" contest will boot off what should be a big (not spread apart) series of posts. Why not start off with some Cloutier love?

Just like Dan wasn't the most spotless goalie in the world, his cards got messy sometimes as well. That being said, this error should be pretty easy to spot. Another stat pumper, if you will...

So that is the card on tap. Happy guesses!

As per usual here is how the scoreboard works:

1) Find error and comment correctly (2 points)
2) Be the first person to find the error and comment correctly (3 points)
3) Find the error partially, but not in it's entirety (1 point)
4) READ, but can't find the error although looking. Comments saying "I dunno" or something along those lines (0.5 points)

And if you are wondering where you are in the standings, look no further:

1. Brad Larocque - 4 points
2. 1976ers - 3 points
    NordH - 3 points
    Jess - 3 points
    Cap'n Canuck - 3 points
    JGBlargh - 3 points
    Sébastian Hell - 3 points
    Kazi - 3 points
    Jason - 3 points
10. Dave H - 2.5 points
      Kevin Osimitz - 2.5 points
      Skroeker - 2.5 points
13. JS - 2 points
      BTHCC Kyle - 2 points
      Sean - 2 points
Hockey Fan (Paul) - 2 points
17. Matt Pederson - 0.5 points

OOPSIES! Contest #2 - Answer

A quick little update on the part 2 of 5 "OOPSIES" contest. Like I said before, this was an easy one! You guys didn't disappoint, as everybody earned at least 2 points this round.

ANSWER: Normand Rochefort played Defence as stated on
the back of the card. The error is on the front of the 1990-91 Score card, where it indicated Normand as a Right Winger.

Like I said, not hard. All 14 responses were correct so everybody gets 2 point added onto their total. But, NordH gets 3 for being the first to respond. I accidentally published his comment before the contest closed so I had to delete it so no one else would see. That's why it shows his comment as being not visible.

Anyways, this is how the points look after two contests:

1. Brad Larocque - 4 points
2. 1976ers - 3 points
    NordH - 3 points
    Jess - 3 points
    Cap'n Canuck - 3 points
    JGBlargh - 3 points
    Sébastian Hell - 3 points
    Kazi - 3 points
    Jason - 3 points
10. Dave H - 2.5 points
      Kevin Osimitz - 2.5 points
      Skroeker - 2.5 points
13. JS - 2 points
      BTHCC Kyle - 2 points
      Sean - 2 points
Hockey Fan (Paul) - 2 points
17. Matt Pederson - 0.5 points

OOPSIES! Contest #2 - Normand Rochefort

It's time for Round 2 of "OOPSIES!" Considering only a select few of the 14 some that guessed last time got it right, we're making this one a little easier.

In french Normand Rochefort's last name literally means "Hard Rock." Thankfully, this card error is soft as pudding. I'm expecting all of you to guess right this time, and no cheating!

Here she is:

OOPSIES! Contest #1 - Benoit Hogue

About three weeks ago I posted the first edition of "OOPSIES" in which I showcased a Joe Thornton card with a very obvious error on the back. I was rummaging through boxes of base cards trying to find errors when the question came to me: Why tell the answer right away?

As a reader of Collecting For Kicks, what anticipation or excitement is there when I give you the answer to the error right away? Therefore, I'm making a dramatic change to this segment. Instead of just showcasing a card, asking can you find the error and just answering that sentences later; I'm gonna actually see if you can FIND THE ERROR.

This is how it will work. First, I will show a card with an error either on the back or front of the card. After you examine and identify the mistake, post a comment telling me what the error is. If you get it right, you get 2 points! I'll do ten contest post of "OOPSIES" and the reader with the most points will get a prize that is TBD!

Fun right? But there is more! Here are ALL THE WAYS YOU CAN GET POINTS:

1) Find error and comment correctly (2 points)
2) Be the first person to find the error and comment correctly (3 points)
3) Find the error partially, but not in it's entirety (1 point)
4) READ, but can't find the error although looking. Comments saying "I dunno" or something along those lines (0.5 points)

So, even if you can't find the error, you can still have a chance to win great cards! So come and read! Since we don't want others simply copying answers from previous comments, I've switched my comments to always be moderated. So NO COMMENTS WILL BE VISIBLE UNTIL AFTER THE CONTEST CLOSES.

This is gonna be the test run, so PLEASE PARTICIPATE (even if you don't know the answer).

Without further introduction...

1991-92 UD Benoit Hogue (#159)

This card is actually one of my favourites from the set because of the picture on the front, but there is an error!

Can you find the mistake?

One last thing, no cheating! We are working on the honour system so please don't Google it or look in your Beckett, but use your hockey card knowledge and try!

Have fun and good luck!

OOPSIES! - Joe Thornton with 6.1 points per game?

Hockey cards, just like every other collectable card, have had their share of errors over the years. From wrong pictures, teams and names, a seasoned collector has seen it all.

I've decided to start a regular segment here at C4K called "OOPSIES!" where I discuss the numerous outrageous errors on hockey cards. Tonight we start with...you guessed it: Big Joe. Yup you heard it here first, Joe Thornton apparently once had an incredible 6.1 points pre game average over 144 games according to Upper Deck.

Looks all good from the front. The baby faced Joe Thornton still in his B's gear looks comfortable gliding across this piece of cardboard. But what really shows the incredible "skill" of Joe is on the back!

Lets do some math, shall we? 880 points in 144 GP is 6.111111 points per game. Incredible right? Not so much. Thornton came about 832 points short of that total on the bottom. Looks like Williams of UD was having his second grade son do the math for statistics on this one.

First of all 55 + 81 DOES NOT equal 144, 3 + 16 DOES NOT equal 25, 4 + 25 DOES NOT equal 43; get the idea? But probably the most exaggerated mistake was the 880 freaking points they gave him in two seasons! What? How does that even happen??!!

But probably even more humorous is the PPG (Power Play Goals) stat. Joe Thornton put up a whopping -17 goals. Don't know how that happens in the game of hockey, but apparently this is a real thing.

Most likely this entire thing is a giant computer error, but funny nonetheless. Can't wait to dig up some more cards in the collection with some great errors! Any big errors stick out in your mind?
