WHAT DOES 25 BUCKS GETCHA? (Part 4)

I stayed home sick from school today so between sleeping, eating soup and more sleeping I did a bit of organizing. I thought it might be appropriate to throw out another fine card to leap into my growing GU collection. A while back when I revisited my collecting goals and calculated a bunch of stats, I realized my GU collection was lacking love. From there on I was determined to build it up. That included buying boxes that were guaranteeing jersey/GU cards, buying singles on eBay, and even feeling up some "hot packs" (especially Pinnacle). This time I used the second way - my personal drug friend eBay.

I really like the design of these "Frozen Artifacts" cards. One thing I would improve though, would be the size of the swatch. Although I like the red, with black dots; it would be nice to see more of it. I really like the shot of Clouts also, he seems concentrated and ready for war in his classic navy blue bucket. Plus, I was the only bidder on this card and thus won it without much effort.

My Visa card is lowly dwindling to an end, here is where I am as of right now:

GAME DAY - Sept. 24th, 2011 - Canucks vs. Ducks

Today I'm introducing a new segment to my ever growing blog. This time with a more creative and personal flair. Last Saturday I attended my first hockey game of the 2011-12 season (even though it was pre-season). So this inspired me to do a little write up on all the Canucks games I go to. That'll include the ticket (and I keep every single one), photos, and last but not least extra commentary (sometimes it may get a little heated!)

I know your not all Canucks fans and it may be a bit boring to some non-Vancouverites so I'll try to make it as generally pleasing to all. Let's start with the ticket!

As you can clearly see on the ticket, the seats for this game were pretty fantastic. Just to give you a reference, the green men would be sitting about 5 rows below us (if they were there). Prime seating (too bad these aren't our regular tickets). These were offered to me by my good buddy from school who had scored these tickets from his older brother. His brother just recently got accepted as an intern for the Canucks dealing in media, ya, I know, pretty freaking sick job. Long story short, I got to go to the game!

We got there fairly early so we could get a good spot during the warm-up. Take a look:

These pictures were taken by my crappy iPhone 3G, so I'm pleasantly surprised to see how well they turned out. Obviously, we were on the enemies side for the warm-up but nonetheless pretty cool to see how they do there thing compared to rep hockey.

Trust me though, the story get's better. As the Ducks are doing a couple laps around their corridors, Teemu Selanne skates by. Me and my buddy point at our chins mocking Teemu's nasty facial hair. He didn't find it funny and gave us a death stare. The next lap around though he lightened up and actually nodded back when we nodded. The third time he stopped and threw a puck over the boards! I caught it, but I gave it to my buddy since he got the tickets and I already had one at home.

Here's my friend holding the "official practice puck".

Oh ya! The actual game, well if you knew me personally you'd know that any hockey game involves me doing a whole lot of yelling and that's what me and my buddy did. It was an appropriate game to start screaming at refs etc. because we lost. Thank you Getzlaf, Ryan, Perry and Selanne for coming and beating us in front of our home crowd against a bunch of 3rd/4th line players! Oh and thanks Jacques for being the first player this season to get serenaded with boo's of the ice...nothing like a cheap shot!

Final score was 4-1 I believe and my last pic captures the only Canucks goal of the game (kinda).

That's all she wrote for today, let me know what you think of the segment and if you'd like to see more of it in the future!

TOP 60 CARDS (Part 4) #45-41

It seems as if I've been circling between three different types of posts (the Goalie Project, Top 60, and what does 25 bucks getcha?). I'll probably be continuing this circle until I officially end my collecting season and do a year end review, new collecting goals and my updated "numbers" post. For now let's drill through these next five cards.

Also, since I've been getting some freakin kick ass cards in these past few weeks, I'll be doing constant updates and additions into my top 60. This will help me show the best of my collection and make pulling a good/great card that much better.

#45 - 2003-04 McDonalds Pacific Atomic Hockey "Saturday Night Rivals" Patrick Lalime / Ed Belfour (#5)

As you can see, the condition of this card isn't great. Probably because it was passed around the playground many times before I got my hand on it. This type of insert is exactly what I loved collecting back in the day and enjoy even now. Even though these are two east coast teams, this is still an awesome card.

#44 - 1991-92 UD John Tanner (#119)

This picture has to be my favourite picture to ever go on a card in history! I mean, how can you not love this pic. From the throwback Nordiques gear to the full on hip back check going on. Even the guy in the upper right hand corner has the look of absolute disgust on his face. LOVE this card!

#43 - 1992-93 UD Profiles Doug Gilmour (#639)

...I think I'll let the picture speak for itself...

#42 - 1992-93 UD Bloodlines Trevor & Jamie Linden (#38)

Nothing like looking back at one of your very first Linden cards as a kid. Anything Trevor is great in my eyes!

#41 - 2010-11 Score Nazem Kadri "Hot Rookies" (#501)

After dazing in and out of card collecting the past few years before this blog, I never really knew what was valuable in my collection. But once I got back in the game and started my blogging, my eyes have opened. Collecting became research, odds, and gambling. I wanted hits and lots of them! I wasn't just content with pulling all base cards, and this card marked the beginning of my new collecting obsession. This years Score set was one of my favourite sets, cheap, good inserts, and if you're lucky an auto. But the Hot Rookies is what I really admired, for the first time my sole goal was to collect this years best RC's.  Nazem Kadri is just the first of three "Hot Rookie" card in my top 60.

41. 2010-11 Score "Hot Rookies" Nazem Kadri
42. 1992-93 UD "Bloodlines" Trevor & Jamie Linden
43. 1992-93 UD "Profiles" Doug Gilmoure
44. 1991-92 UD John Tanner
45. 2003-04 Pacific McDonalds "Saturday NIght Rivals" Lalime / Belfour
46. 2002-03 Pacific McDonalds "Net-Fusions" Dominik Hasek
47. 2003-04 Canucks Fin Postcard (SIGNED)
48. 1992-93 "Profiles" Darius Kasperaitis
49. 1992-93 "Profiles" Alexei Kovalev
50. 1993-94 UD Kirk Muller
51. 2006-07 BAP RC AUTO Patrick O'Sullivan /10
52. 1990-91 Score Jan Erixon
53. 2007-08 UD McDonalds "In the Crease" Ryan Miller
54. 1994-95 Pinnacle Sylvain Turgeon (ft. Patrick Kane)
55. 2002-03 Pacific McDonalds "Net-Fusions" Evgeni Nabokov
56. 1994-95 Pinnacle Doug Lidster
57. 1990-91 Score / 1995-96 Topps - Oilers / Devils Stanley Cup
58. 1992-93 UD Jim Hrivnak
59. 1990-91 Topps Grant Fuhr
60. 1990-91 Bowman Daren Puppa

WHAT DOES 25 BUCKS GETCHA? (Part 3)

In my last post I showed what exactly a bad eBay purchase was. Nine bucks could have gotten me a nice auto or even a lower end patch card (maybe). Instead I took a bit of a gamble and ended up with base cards, a couple inserts, and a RC. Sometimes it's just better to go with what you know you're gonna get! That's what I did on this purchase, and I have no buyer's remorse on this one!

This card is from ITG's 2010-11 release of Heroes and Prospects. As the card shows this card is a Game-Used Jersey Black card and shows a pretty nice two colour patch that is obviously cut from a Manitoba Moose jersey. Cory Schneider has been a solid back-up for my Nucks and this cards is one of the three GU jersey cards I'm adding to my collection from my recent eBay purchases. I really like watching this part of my collection grow. And of course, this fits in nicely to my Goalie Project.

WHAT DOES 25 BUCKS GETCHA? (Part 2)

Well today I decided to do something a little different. Instead of scanning cards for this new segment I decided to switch it up and make my first video for C4K. I'll keep the video up for a week so you guys can all see it and then I'll take it down cuz I don't like my picture wandering around the internet world (I'm weird like that). Anyways, here is the second eBay purchase I made with my first card (and yes I did buy myself a second). Without further a due...

Hope it works! Anyways I'll throw out a few stats that show how deep I am into my first $25 gift card.

TOP 60 CARDS (Part 3) #50-46

I've been getting some really awesome mail days lately and although I already have my top 60 planned out, I'll be updating my top 60 constantly inducting new cards and kicking out others. But for now we'll just stick to what I have planned out. Let's start!

#50 - 1993-94 UD Kirk Muller (#148)

This card is my favourite card from this set by far. Muller holding Lord Stanley's Cup with the nice Habs lid on.

#49 - 1992-93 UD "Profiles" Alexei Kovalev (#633)

Even though I'm not a huge fan of Kovalev's game I love his soccer background. His shootout moves in the All-Star game a couple years ago showed that. This card is the sorta cheesy picture that would go on one of my hockey cards if I were an NHL player (one can dream right?)

#48 - 1992-93 UD "Profiles"Darius Kasparaitis (#623)

Uhhhhhh...I think the picture speaks for itself. I can smell cheese just looking at the card, just terribly great.

#47 - 2003-04 Canucks Postcard Fin (AUTO)

You can't tell by the scan but this autographed mascot card is a jumbo postcard. I got this from fin at a super skills competition years ago.

#46 - 2002-03 Pacific McDonalds "Glove Side Net-Fusions" Dominik Hasek (#2)

This is the other Net-Fusions card I had to showcase. Number 55 was also from this set but featured goalie Evgeni Nabokov.

So that's it for this one. Short and sweet. Here's the list:

46. 2002-03 Pacific McDonalds "Net-Fusions" Dominik Hasek
47. 2003-04 Canucks Fin Postcard (SIGNED)
48. 1992-93 "Profiles" Darius Kasperaitis
49. 1992-93 "Profiles" Alexei Kovalev
50. 1993-94 UD Kirk Muller
51. 2006-07 BAP RC AUTO Patrick O'Sullivan /10
52. 1990-91 Score Jan Erixon
53. 2007-08 UD McDonalds "In the Crease" Ryan Miller
54. 1994-95 Pinnacle Sylvain Turgeon (ft. Patrick Kane)
55. 2002-03 Pacific McDonalds "Net-Fusions" Evgeni Nabokov
56. 1994-95 Pinnacle Doug Lidster
57. 1990-91 Score / 1995-96 Topps - Oilers / Devils Stanley Cup
58. 1992-93 UD Jim Hrivnak
59. 1990-91 Topps Grant Fuhr

What Does 25 Bucks Getcha? (Part 1)

Yet another new segment here on C4K. This one involves eBay and a 25 dollar pre-paid credit card. Let me explain. We had some visitors come up here to beautiful BC from beautiful Oregon. As a kind gesture for opening our home up to them they gave me a gift (along with the rest of the family). I was fortunate enough to score a 25 dollar pre-paid Visa card. I knew exactly what I was gonna do with it! Right away I signed myself up for eBay joined Paypal and off I went. So what does 25 bucks get ya? Let's see.

First I set out a mental plan. My strategy was to go for cheap "Buy It Now" auctions, grab cards in lots instead of singles, and most importantly free shipping! I'm currently making my final purchase with my last few dollars left but have only received one of my many packages coming my way.

Without further a due my first card is...

1978-79 OPC Curt Ridley (#302)

This was a very important card to add to my Goalie Project. Card isn't in terrible shape (trust me there are worse coming) but I'm not one to really care on old cards and old cards only. Here Curt is sporting the original Nucks gear, but from the logo in the top left corner it looks like this was the year they were switching over to the spaghetti bowl flying skate logo and the classic flying V front (nah I'm just kidding I love those old jerseys).

So after this first eBay purchase this is what's left on my card:

(1.00) Paypal membership

SPECIAL MAIL DAY: THANKS JIMMY!

A couple weeks ago I got a message from Jimmy Budny from Collectors Corner asking what my Goalie Project was all about. I explained it to him and he responded asking for my address so he could help me out. Let me just say I got some awesome stuff and I could not be more appreciative!

First let's start with some of the Canucks "skaters" cards he sent my way.

Some great cards in this bunch my especially favourite card is my very first Cody Hodgson card! I look to add more of this guy in the future, very possible to be my first PC.

Some great cards in this lot of cards. Most notably the Richard Brodeur in the last scan on the bottom left-hand corner. I also love the Luongo/Marchand dual, just wish Marchand wasn't on it.

Wow, you really don't see this kind of generosity in any other collection. Hockey bloggers are known to be generous and this will fit in well with my other 2006-07 BAP Signature cards!

I believe Jimmy featured this card on one of his posts a while back. This signature came via TTM and I was very pleasently surprised when seeing it, simply awesome!

Another great TTM from a Nucks goalie! Garth Snow's mask has always stuck out as a very wintery, comforting mask and I'm very happy to have this card!

MY VERY FIRST LINDEN SIGNATURE! WOOT! Thanks Jimmy, I couldn't be happier to add this to my collection! This card deffs slots into my top 60 I'm currently compiling so once I finish it up, I'll be doing a "TOP 60 ADDITIONS POST".

Look for another top 60 post in the near future as well as some Goalie Projects and a new segment that involves a Visa card and eBay. Thanks for reading and...

Thanks Jimmy!
