THANK YOU 67er!

A little while ago I posted up 3 cards that I bought from a lot on eBay. They included Charlie Hodge, Dale Tallon and Ray Cullen 1970-71 OPC cards. Upon seeing the horrific conditions of the cards, 1967er (as he's known to most) from Diamond Cuts and Wax Stains messaged me saying that he had a few cards to send my way that would make a nice fit in my collection. Being the nice guy he is, he not only replaced the most important card in the eBay lot (Charlie Hodge) but added some absolutely beautiful vintage cards! Let's see!

As I mentioned before, he sent me a card to replace my half destroyed Hodge. Let's compare the two:

Excuse my scanning abilities but it's clear to see that the first card is in wayyyyy better shape then the latter. But this biggest difference is on the back!

Now that is a sigh of relief!! That is a huge improvement, thank you!

Next we will move on to our next goalie - George Gardner. This is a really big help toward my goalie project and with these next two cards we are killing two birds with...well...I guess two stones, but it's still really good!

When I think of 70's hockey cards I think of these circular, pink backgrounded cards. Love the old school jersey's we're seeing too!

I'm a big fan of the cards that actually show goalies in their vintage pads. It really makes you appreciate the advancement in technology we've had in the past decades! These two cards really add a nice vintage feel to my Goalie Project!

Gary Smith is known as the pioneer of Canucks tenders. He was the first goalie to really breakout in Canucks gear and has one of the most famous nicknames...

This is my favourite part of the Smith card by far! I'm always a fan of the little caricatures on the back of old cards (and personally I think they should be brought back) but this one is definitely the best one I've seen!

And the big surprise is...

Wow! This is an awesome surprise! A card from the 60's! This is definitely the oldest card in my collection by about 5 years! Charlie Hodge in Canadiens gear ta boot! I was stoked when I saw this card, thanks sooooo much!

The back makes this card even better, it still has the blank trivia puck thingy. There's no way I'm scratching this card no matter how tempting it is.

Thanks so much 1967er!! Check your mailbox soon!

  1. Glad you like 'em! I really wanted to send a Smith in better shape, but that was the one that I had.

I was of two minds whether the favourite would be the '64 Hodge or the '71 Gardner. The Gardner was the only NM-ish card of the lot but the '64 is a really cool set.

Took me a minute to realize they were scanned in the toploaders. When I saw the mark on the '71 I was shocked, but it's tape residue.

  2. Oh - also - you don't need to scratch the '64 anyway. Just tilt it near a light source. They're dead easy to read.

  3. Ya there were all scanned in top loaders but these cards are in excellent shape for their age! As for the scratch able surface it says that Hodge led the league with eight shut-outs.

  4. Just scared me for a second - thought I needed my eyes checked because I'd have bet those marks weren't there when I sent 'em. :)

Which Dunc Wilson have you got?

  5. I've got one from a 2009-10 ITG throwback series and another 72-73 OPC

  6. I've just picked that 73 OPC Dunc Wilson recently so I haven't posted it yet

  7. OK, I know the '72-73. I was positive I'd have a '71-72 kicking around and I wanted to put one in the package but I couldn't find it. I'll keep looking.
